While Wisconsin was getting all the press, protests and outside attention, Ohio has gone forward with a new union restraint law that effects a much larger union government workforce than Wisc, 360,000 govt workers. This gives the state a shot and getting its budget under control.
“Ohio is far more important to the union movement. It has the nation’s sixth largest number of public sector union members, which is twice as many as Wisconsin.”
Very interesting video of former LA Mayor. LA financial situation is totally unsustainable.
Watch the video.
Probably the largest single cost of local and sate government is in K-12 government education (public schools). It eats up around one third of all of their revenues.
To make matters worse, governments routinely fudge their education figures. This study found that costs are actually 44% higher than reported.
And the outrageous costs don’t stop there. When you take a cold hard look, the study found that public schools cost more than private schools!
Some example per pupil costs in the study:
Wash DC $22,400
Los Angeles $19,000
Our two most recent Presidents can’t balance a budget. They spent more than they made. Simple basic economics. Our current budget shortfall is $1.7 trillion, and our debt is about $14.7 trillion!
George Bush graduated from Yale and Harvard. Barack Obama graduated from Columbia and Harvard! These are supposed to be elite schools, yet they couldn’t even teach basic budget concepts and discipline to two of their most prominent graduates. Shameful! These are embarrassing failures for these pretentious schools; and I haven’t even mentioned their failed students that populate our Congress, not to mention the scoundrels in financial institutions that sold sham mortgage securities. (also Ben Bernanke, Fed Reserve Chairman, Harvard grad)
Yes, these Ivy League Grads Fail Miserably at Basic Economics.
Why does it cost so much? Because it’s run by the government and govt union workers. These are government (so called “public”) schools.
NJ citizens could send their kids to private school for less, and get them a better education.
Aliens in this country illegally have reached an official figure of 12 million, but there are probably more like 23 million now in this country. This means that, at least, 1 of every 20 people you see on the streets is an illegal alien!
Amazingly the country stopped officially counting the numbers in 1981, and the census doesn’t count them.
Why should you care?
1) They are here ILLEGALLY. This means our government is not enforcing the law. Anyone who follows this subject knows why. It is a purely political calculation. It’s outrageous. Our politicians and government only pretend to enforce these immigration laws. We are governed by pretentious unethical people in both political parties.
2) Illegal immigrants are a huge cost to our economy and society. Many welfare benefits, schooling and free medical services are given to illegal aliens. These services are free to the illegal but cost us, the taxpayer, buckets of money. Our taxes pay for these services. The numbers are so vast, no one can really wrap their minds around how much this is costing us. Illegal aliens don’t pay us anything, yet you pay for these services for them! Many illegal aliens come to the US for the purpose of having children born here who then become instant American citizens; then our vast social services kick in for these “new citizens” and their families (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid).
At a time when our national budget and state budgets are so dysfunctional and essentially bankrupt we keep at it, giving free services to illegal and unethical people.
Why? Because our politicians are unethical. And, the root cause is that we keep electing the same unethical people to public office. It’s really our own fault for not paying attention and for not electing ethical representatives.
Please educate yourself and elect ethical people at all levels of government.
Why do we have government run schools? Just asking.
I don’t see it in the Constitution. Do you?
It seems like the government (“public”) school system is run by unions who are mostly out for more and more benefits for union members (teachers), and more political power for themselves.
What about our kids? And education?
As has been amply shown, higher benefits for union members don’t increase test scores or graduation rates. Unions don’t teach kids anything, they help keep kids trapped in sub-standard schools. It’s tragic.
